It is time for all those lovely flowers and creatures to appear and bloom from their hibernation, just like us.
A bit about me... I am a Professional Organiser and Declutterer. A mid 30’s spring chicken in the industry, but with lots to give! I have been practicing organising for years through my own homes taking it to work and now starting my own business, I can honour the work by offering help to those in need or who just want a revamp in the home.
Why do we need organising... to be able to do things more efficiently, save time, save money and most of all – peach of mind!
This piece is going to catch on those Spring Time actions most want to achieve during this time. I will offer some tips and advice on Organising and Decluttering your home for the Spring.
1. CLEAN & TIDY... Time for a deep clean. Start room by room and put on the music, have some wine, try to enjoy it! There is nothing better than the end result! Get rid of stuff you never use and just don’t need. Be brutal, chuck it out! Trust me – it feels good. You will feel oh so lighter. The spring is for letting go and starting fresh. Tidy sections at a time if it is too much all in one go. Make a schedule.
2. CLEAR OUT... This is the moment you be brave and tackle your clutter. Do it slowly, no need to rush or go crazy! One step at a time. A little bit at a time. Keep it less overwhelming and more manageable. You will want to start with one section and slowly do it over time. Make time as it is like making time for the gym or cooking a meal. It is important for the mental and physical health. Begin the process with taking buckets / bins / bags / boxes or baskets and grouping your items into these categories: KEEP / THROWOUT / SELL / CHARITY. That will help you sort it out over time as it is grouped and ready.
3. WARDROBE REFRESH... Start to pack away items you don’t think you will need, like winter thick jackets or jumpers. It is layers season! Be realistic and think carefully. Think about outfits and if it gets slightly chilly or too warm. It may still be a bit windy but not that freezing weather where you need thick clothes and a woolen large scarf! If you can, try get rid of duplicates or items you have not worn for many seasons as they may just not be at any use. You will want space in the wardrobe now because of all the layers and various clothes we wear during season change. If you have under-the-bed storage, cardboard boxes, see-through storage boxes or extra cupboards, this is best to put items away and ideally label them so that you know what they are. Make sure they are findable as you may forgot something and need to pull it out!
4. RE-DECORATE... Why not change things up a little. After all, you deserve it after the hard work! Re-paint the walls or bring in some colour. Scatter pillows, light throws or flowers. Try using fresh, bold or lighter colours of spring. Calming pastels like pinks and light blue or bright positive yellows and greens.
I hope you all have a lovely Spring and enjoy Organising or Decluttering!
