Hoarding Behaviour

In this blog – I am not going to tell you off or put anyone to shame. I am not passing judgement nor instructing you what to do. At the end of the day… you are an individual and it is your life. We all deal with challenges. It is how we tackle them that matters the most. I am not a doctor or have any right to diagnose and give out facts about this topic for anyone to bring action from what I say. But I do hope it is a comforting read and want you to know that many of us go through struggles and we can learn from each other, to understand each other. To understand the struggle and motivate or support each other.

Do you have compulsive buying habits?

Think of the root of this habit. Why do we buy so many things? What makes us want it so badly – and do we really need it? Why MUST we get it? Why now? And why so much stuff? Questions may open up answers to things we never knew. Childhood memories or incidents that stuck with us may continue to influence ourselves presently to the point that it could affect our lives, our habits, our minds and eventually our health, or wealth. Too much of a good thing could also be referred to products. Think back to the cave-man times or the Victorian era, and even the 1940’s after the war… basic living may not be easy or may scare us, but it could bring a simpler and happier life. It could bring you freedom…

Are you wanting to surround yourself with things as a comfort?

One does find comfort having items close to reach or easy to see. We like our things and want them with us like a child holding onto its favourite soft toy. But if you let it go… imagine how much lighter you could be? That feeling of relief, a weight lifted off your shoulders. You would be able to move around and see things clearer. Ah… the calm it could bring.

Do you have trouble parting with items?

We all have items we love. Every piece that has been collected was bought for a reason. It comes with memories and emotions, which may be happy or sad. However, after years of keeping these items, what do we know? Will it make us feel better, healthier or richer? Will it change our life? Does it matter if we go somewhere and leave them behind. Or did they matter before we had them? Something to think about. It may actually be ironically a burden to your mental or physical state.  Sometimes we feel the need to hang on. But we do not realize the benefits of letting go…

Are you obstructed by items in your home, including not being able to do anything because of it?

Safety is vital when it comes to taking care of ourselves in our home and that is where obstructions may be a concern too. One may not worry about it now but when it happens, it might be too late. Try all your might to move items away for safety purposes… see my blog ‘Safety in the House’ containing some resource links to receive more information.

Are you embarrassed to have people over?

If you feel you are at the point of not wanting anyone in your home. Maybe think about things and decide is this what you really want. It can be a lonely world out there and with people not aware of how you live, it may be difficult for you to receive the help you need. Family and friends are there for support. We all have weaknesses and are going through things. Be brave and ask for help if you need it. There is no shame in asking for help. If you want guidance there is guidance out there too. Just see all the resources below to see what I mean.
